Dr Ernest Khoo

DEVELOPMENTAL & BEHAVIOURAL OPTOMETRIST

B Optom/ Vis Science Auckland University

M Optom University of New South Wales

Kids Optometry by Five Dock Optometry

Ernest Khoo is a highly skilled optometrist with a diverse and expansive career across New Zealand and Australia. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Auckland, New Zealand where he developed a strong foundation in optometry. Early in his career, he worked in Christchurch where he gained invaluable experience managing a wide range of ocular pathologies, particularly working with patients diagnosed with keratoconus. He further honed his expertise in complex contact lens fittings, a challenging and rewarding aspect of his practice. During this time, he also participated in non-profit eye care trips, both locally and internationally, helping to provide essential vision care to underserved communities.

After several years of working in clinical optometry, Ernest Khoo felt a strong desire to expand his knowledge beyond traditional optometry. This led him to pursue postgraduate studies at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), where he delved into binocular vision, pediatric optometry, and evidence-based studies. These studies significantly enriched his approach to patient care, enabling him to offer a more holistic and scientifically grounded perspective on visual health. While completing his postgraduate education, Ernest Khoo moved to Melbourne, where he continued to refine his skills in optometry while leading a team of optometrists. His professional journey ultimately led him to Sydney, where he currently practices. In addition to his clinical work, he spent his time teaching and mentoring final-year optometry students at the pediatric and binocular vision clinic, where he worked alongside leaders in the field. This experience allowed him to share his expertise with the next generation of optometrists, emphasizing the importance of evidence-based practice and comprehensive patient care.

With extensive experience in treating complex ocular conditions and a deep understanding of developmental and binocular vision, Ernest Khoo is passionate about improving the visual health of not only his younger patients but of all ages.

Dr Frank Filocamo
DEVELOPMENTAL & BEHAVIOURAL OPTOMETRIST

B. Optom FACBO FCOVD
Neuro Development Optometry

Frank Filocamo is a highly experienced Developmental and Behavioural Optometrist with over 40 years in clinical experience. He holds Fellowships in Behavioural Optometry from the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists (ACBO) and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, a recognition of his advanced training in how vision impacts learning, development, and quality of life.

Frank’s journey into optometry began with a childhood eye injury that sparked a deep curiosity about how vision works. Paired with a love for science, this led him to pursue optometry, where he has since built a reputation for excellence and care across generations of families.

Early in his career, Frank became increasingly aware that traditional eye exams were not addressing the needs of many children struggling at school. Parents often described bright, capable children who were being labelled as clumsy, distracted, or underachieving, when the real issue was often underdeveloped visual skills.

This inspired Frank to further his knowledge in Developmental Optometry, a field that looks beyond clarity of sight to assess how well the visual system functions in real-life tasks such as reading, writing, coordination, and learning.

Today, his work involves assessing and supporting visual processing, tracking, eye teaming, and visual perception—key areas that affect learning, attention, and performance. While he works extensively with children, Frank also helps patients of all ages overcome complex visual challenges and improve day-to-day functioning.
